THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF EDUCATION

Oxford dictionary says, “Education is the process of imparting, knowledge, skill and judgment”. The primary focus of education should be imparting skills through different processes. I strongly believe that today’s education should have the ability to make the young learners fit to face the challenges of life; which also can be considered one of the basics of education. If the acquired education fails to ensure this; then we can’t consider this as good education.

You will agree to me when I say, education process must have a long term goal rather than restricting itself with the short term goals; to be considered a good and quality education. The primary aim of education is to bring out the best among the learners to face the challenges of life refining them from within. A young learner has all the potential to learn facts by himself/herself. The teachers’ role is to motivate or facilitate them showing the right path to achieve their desired goals. Ready made things make people dull; so one must try to bring new ideas rather than being dependent on it; because people remember the one, who brings new ideas for the world which is also the primary objective of education. Ready made things may give us temporary success but in the long run it loses its essense. Ready made things kill our inherent skills which are in us and make us worthless.

A self refined learner can create his/her opportunities by himself/herself. The basic job of a teacher is to guide the learners towards better life. Moral values are a necessity to prove one better in the long run; some learners may fail to understand this during the initial days but in the process of growing up they definitely appreciate the one who inspired them with all the basic values. Young learners follow adults and being an adult if we change certain attitude in us then definitely they will follow us and in this process we can create a better society.

We know that the world is changing rapidly and today’s learners will take up jobs which don’t even exist today. So, where is the reason to force the learners to take up what we say or what is given as a syllabus? Majority of the students will not be using today’s concepts in their process of living. And here the point comes; why should we focus on imparting values in students? Here I didn’t mean that the syllabus doesn’t have any role in a child’s life. It does have a role because the syllabus is designed to develop the quality of the target students but how the syllabus is to be taught greatly lies on the teacher concerned. A facilitator or a teacher has a great role in this process and here the teacher should find out the long term goals of that specific syllabus before imparting the inherent idea to the students. Here I would like to stress on the role of teachers in imparting quality education where the learners can build up the necessary requirements within them and keep themselves fit to face the challenges of life.

Education is a two way process where the learners have equal role in acquiring knowledge and wisdom. The giver can never be successful without a receiver; there must be a receiver to call one as a giver. Learners must bring interest in learning the concepts prepared by the teachers otherwise the process of education will never be successful. Teachers as well as students should agree to certain points to make the teaching learning process fruitful. We can’t deny the parents’ role in a child’s growth and development. Parents do have a pivotal role in this process.

‘What’ and ‘Why’ are the two basic questions one should ask before starting anything. What is the particular thing and why should we do are the basic questions one must have before taking up a decision. If one asks these basic questions before taking up anything, for sure, they would become successful in their lives. Most of the problems arise when we do not know what we are doing and what is the purpose of doing that? We often take up certain activities without knowing its basics and I am sure these actions can never give us success. Life is full of choices and we find opportunities everywhere. Just we need to select the one that helps us to grow better or to reflect ourselves better. A wrong decision leads to a disaster where a right decision makes us successful.

It is often seen that the young learners fail to understand their potential and the role of the teachers and well wishers start there. Their role is to guide and mould them in this process. Each child is God gifted and has the ability to create his/her opportunities by himself/herself but one must be there to encourage the learners and to show them the right path because the young learners may fail to choose the right path. If a child is brought to the right track the child will definitely create history by his/her own. Not only the teachers the parents and guardians including the elders of the society where the child belongs to; have a great role in this process of changing the child.

The base of education is not teaching the learners certain topics but it is helping them to inculcate quality in them. If it is done properly with a specific vision and planning; for sure, no one can stop them to achieve the greatest heights.
